Central Coast Local Health Network Service Overview

Central Coast LHN provides health care to Gosford and Wyong Shires. The Area is bounded by the Pacific Ocean, north to Catherine Hill Bay, and by Broken Bay and the Hawkesbury River to the South.  Crangan Bay and Chain Valley Bay of Lake Macquarie form part of the northern boundary. The western boundary follows the old Great North Road between Wiseman’s Ferry and Bucketty, then through the Coastal Ranges.

Central Coast LHN incorporates two acute hospitals (Gosford and Wyong), two sub-acute facilities (Woy Woy and Long Jetty Hospitals) and a number of Non-Government organisations. Three private hospitals are located in this Health Service (North Gosford, Berkeley Vale and Brisbane Waters) and one day-surgery centre (Central Coast Endoscopy).

Primary & Community Care Services on the Central Coast include dental services, alcohol and other drug services, child & family health, community nursing, community outreach therapy services, GP collaboration unit, palliative care service, youth health, chronic services and podiatry.  Services are provided across ten Community Health centres, hospital outpatient facilities and in the home. The community health centres are located at Gosford, Erina, Woy Woy, Wyong, Long Jetty, Lake Haven, Toukley, Mangrove Mountain, Kincumber and Kanwal.

Wyong Hospital is within the Wyong Shire 30 kms north of Gosford and has a mixture of Emergency, General Medicine, Aged Care & Rehabilitation Medicine, General Surgery, Coronary Care, Operating Theatre, High Dependency & Mental Health Units.

Central Coast Local Health Network - Wyong Hospital Direct Entry Critical Care – Transition To Practice Registered Nurse Strategy offers the Transitional Registered Nurse,

  • Two (2) six month placements: Clinical placement preferences are considered
  • Full time and part time positions are considered
  • A comprehensive induction process to the organisation & the clinical unit
  • Individualised clinical & professional development pathway, incorporating clinical placement preferences & relevant learning experiences
  • Negotiated study leave to attend learning opportunities  
  • A supportive learning environment, including use of Performance Development & Review, learning packages, learning contracts and portfolio development
  • Support from program co-ordinators, preceptors, clinical nurse educators, and clinical experts in all clinical areas
  • Continuation of employment following completion of program, plus ongoing access to career advice and planning
  • 2 weeks negotiated annual leave nearing completion of the 1st placement

Clinical placements will include:

Both placements you will be located at Wyong Hospital. Each placement is of 6 months duration.

The first placement you will be located on WyM2 - CCU at Wyong Hospital and the second placement will be as below.

  • ED - Emergency Department

Start dates:

The proposed commencement dates/months have been confirmed as 5 March 2012.

Employment Type:

The Transitional Registered Nurse (TRN) is employed as a permanent full-time registered nurse. Part-time positions are considered upon written application to Vijay Saamy - Nurse Manager Marketing & Professional Development - once an offer has been made by the Central Coast Local Health Network (CCLHN).
