Situated on Sydney’s Lower North Shore, Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) is located next to St Leonards railway station, 15 minutes from the city.  There are buses at the door and we are surrounded by shopping centres and close to the beaches.

We offer nurses an environment that is friendly, challenging, exciting and personally and professionally rewarding.  Our professional nurses and midwives apply evidence-based knowledge in the planning and provision of quality patient care within an innovative, multidisciplinary health care team.

Royal North Shore Hospital provides limited accommodation, multi-storey car park, banking facilities with ATM, post office, childcare facilities, chapel, cafeteria, coffee shops, sub-way, kiosk, hairdresser and beautician. We have security patrols, a staff counsellor and a General Practitioner Medical service.

The hospital campus has a non-smoking policy.  Recreational activities include a social club, swimming pool open all year, tennis and squash courts, gymnasium, BBQ and large spacious grounds.

Our services include:

Delivery of care is managed and delivered through Divisional Units as follows:

  • Division of Surgery: Severe Burns and Plastics, Cardiothoracic, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics/Trauma, Spinal Cord Injuries, Vascular, Urology, Gastro-Intestinal, ENT, Head and Neck, Endocrine, Ophthalmology, Pre-Admission, 23-Hour Care Centre, Outpatients Department and Trauma.

  • Division of Medicine: Cardiology, Ambulatory Care, Haematology, Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Acute Aged Care, Neurology/Stroke, Respiratory and HIV Medicine, Diabetes, Gastroenterology, Sexual Health and Emergency Medicine (both adult and paediatric).

  • Division of Clinical Support Services: General Intensive Care, Cardiothoracic Intensive Care, Neurosurgical Intensive Care, Pain Management, Operating Suite, Anaesthetics and Recovery, and Perioperative.

  • Division of Women's, Children's and Family Health: Maternity (Antenatal, Postnatal, Ambulatory Care), Delivery Suite and Birthing Centre, Newborn Care Centre, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Paediatrics, Gynaecology, Gynae-oncology, Genetic Counselling, Menopause Clinic, Child and Family Health, and Child Protection Services.

Clinical rotations may include:

  • Surgical: Burns and Plastics, Cardiothoracic, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Spinal Injuries, Vascular, Urology, Gastro-Intestinal, Gynaecology, ENT, Head and Neck, Pre Admission, Peri-Operative, Recovery and Anaesthetics.

  • Medical: Cardiology, Haematology, Oncology, Acute Aged Care, Neurology, Renal, Respiratory and HIV Medicine.

  • Critical Care: General ICU, Cardiothoracic ICU, Neurosurgical ICU and Emergency Medicine.

  • Women and Children's Health: Paediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care.

  • Mental Health and Community Health

NEW GRADUATE NURSE PROGRAM

Northern Sydney Central Coast Health (NSCCH) is proud to once again offer its New Graduate Nurse Program.  The facilities include:  Hornsby, Gosford, Macquarie, Manly/Mona Vale, Royal North Shore, Ryde, Woy Woy and Wyong Hospitals, Long Jetty Healthcare Centre, Northern Sydney Home Nursing Service, Hope Health Care and Royal Rehabilitation Centre Sydney.
NSCCH acknowledges that nursing is a diverse profession and that is why we have responded with a New Graduate Program which meets the diverse needs of our nurses.

  • Full time and part time positions available!

  • A 12 month program

  • A five-day orientation program (including supernumerary time in the first rotation)

  • Five paid and salary-replaced days to be used for educational learning experiences throughout the year (pro rata for part time staff)

  • Individualised clinical and professional development pathway, incorporating clinical placement preferences and relevant learning experiences within service requirements

  • Optional rotations (variable length) within each of the four sectors, depending on individual learning needs and interest

  • Direct entry programs offered to Mental Health, Critical Care, Cardiac and Operating Suite, where places are available

  • A supportive learning environment, including use of learning packages, learning contracts and portfolio development

  • Support from program co-ordinators, preceptors, educators and clinical experts in all clinical areas

  • Performance development system, with meetings every 3 months (minimum)

  • Continuation of employment following completion of program plus ongoing access to career advice and planning

  • 2 weeks scheduled annual leave

  • Accommodation available
