Start your career pathway on a positive note! Nursing and Midwifery practices within Northern Sydney Central Coast Health (NSCCH) are responsive to contemporary trends and challenges in healthcare. NSCCH facilities and services have skilled supportive staff that will provide you with the dynamic learning environment to transition newly Registered Nurses and Midwives to become safe and competent practitioners. We are committed to assisting you in designing your individual clinical and professional learning pathway during the transition period.  NSCCH offers a number of exceptional learning opportunities following the completion of the Transition to Practice year.

All positions on offer are highly sought after. Please take note that the interview process is a competitive one and you should prepare yourself. You never get a second chance to make a first impression! As part of the application process, you will be asked to nominate a list of preferences. There are twenty (20) preferences listed for NSCCH. Please consider carefully and make an informed choice.

2010 NSCCH Transition to Practice Application Process

Orientation

Designed to welcome newly graduated Registered Nurses and Registered Midwives into our organisation, the orientation process will allow you to be informed of the organisational values, policies and procedures. It also provides an opportunity for networking and socialising with other new employees. Theoretical and clinical workshops are utilised to provide an interactive approach to your orientation.

Full-time & part-time positions are available

If you elect to work part-time you will still need to participate in the orientation program.

Opportunities

Acknowledging that nursing and midwifery are diverse professions, NSCCH has tailored the Transition to Practice initiatives, to meet your individual professional development needs. We will help you design your individualised clinical and professional learning pathway.

A supportive learning environment

A supportive learning environment is our aim. This is achieved through your interaction with some key support people throughout the program. You will have access to Transition Support Educators, Clinical Nurse Educators, Preceptors, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Nurse Consultants, Nursing Unit Managers and members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Performance development

A performance review will be conducted on each rotation. The performance review process allows you to reflect on your practice and identify your learning needs. This enables you and your manager to develop learning strategies designed to enhance your performance.

Annual leave

2 weeks annual leave is available within your program.

NSCCH offers a number of great learning opportunities following completion of the Transition to Practice.

NSCCH in collaboration with University of Technology Sydney and Newcastle University offers postgraduate certificate courses in Critical Care, Neuroscience, Peri-operative & Anaesthetics, Recovery Room Nursing and Midwifery. The University of Tasmania offers scholarships for NSCCH Nurses and Midwives for postgraduate certificate courses in Acute Care, Cardio-vascular, Critical care, Aged Care, Child & family Health, Community Health, Emergency, Neonatal Intensive care, Renal Nursing, Clinical Nursing and Teaching, Paediatrics, Perioperative, Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing, Masters in Clinical Nursing and Masters of Midwifery.

NSCCH in collaboration with the College of Nursing also offers other Postgraduate courses and opportunities for a variety of learning experiences such as short courses, distance modules, conferences and self directed study.
