Overview about CCLHD Midwifery Models

Group Practice

Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) Model commenced at both Gosford and Wyong Hospital in early April 2007. MGP is a primary health continuity of care model that offers low risk women an option of continuity of midwifery care. The midwives work within a group practice framework with partnerships (buddy midwives).  MGP midwives are responsible for a caseload of 40 women per year based on full 1.0 FTE and part-time midwives on pro-rata basis.

The MGP’s aim to provide 24 hour continuity of clinical care across the continuum. A known midwife within the MGP provides the majority of antenatal care and education, care during labour and birth and post partum home care (up to day 7) to all women within their caseload. For well women and babies, the transition to home is 4-6 hours after birth.

Community Midwife Program (CMP) - Gosford

The team provides a family centered midwifery service aiming for continuity of care through pregnancy, childbirth and after the birth of the baby –in the hospital and home.
